Governor Youngkin has created a “tip line” to report instances of “divisive practices in schools” so he and his administration can see “what’s happening at a school level.” Please.

If the Governor really wanted to know what is going on in our classrooms, he could have just asked VEA. But since he decided to create a tip line, we think it’s time to #SchoolYoungkin on all the great things happening in Virginia public schools.

We’re asking VEA members and supporters to send an email to helpeducation@governor.virginia.gov to let Governor Youngkin know what it’s like to be a student, educator, or parent in public schools right now.

1. Send a report about your favorite educator or the experience at school that has had the biggest impact on your life.
2. Let Youngkin know about your schools’ Covid policies and what you think of his attempt to repeal the mask mandate.
3. Let Youngkin know what you think about the fact that we’re a top ten state for per capita income, but have the least competitive teacher pay in the country.

A few tips for your submission:

Do:

• Write messages in your own voice
• Send messages from your personal email, not your work email
• Forward your message to Tips@veanea.org so we can learn about your schools
• Attach any pictures or videos that you want to share with the Governor
• Keep it civil. You are emailing a government email address!

Don’t:

• Send anything that could potentially get you in trouble with your employer
• Send an email from your work email address
• CC or BCC the VEA. We don’t want your message to be marked as spam, so only send your messages to helpeducation@governor.virginia.gov

Let’s make sure the Governor understand who understands our public schools best – the folks who make them work.
